OPPI Council
OPPI's Council directs the activities of OPPI and sets the strategic direction and policies for the profession and the Institute. Council members are elected by the membership for a two-year term and can be re-elected for a second term. The terms of office are staggered so that only half of the Council positions are elected each year.
The President leads the Institute, oversees the affairs of OPPI, acts as the primary spokesperson and presides at Institute meetings. The President serves a two-year term as President-Elect and then continues as President for two years. Click here for a list of Past Presidents.
The President-Elect oversees the Strategic Plan for OPPI, serves as the Nomination Committee link to Council, represents OPPI on the CIP Council, and prepares to take on the spokesperson role as President of OPPI. In the absence of the President, this person oversees the affairs of the Institute and presides at OPPI meetings.
The Secretary/Treasurer is a member of Council appointed to oversee the financial operations of the Institute, in addition to other Council responsibilities.

He or she works closely with the Districts and planning schools to identify potential members; acts as liaison to the student delegate on Council; attends meetings of the university student delegate representatives; coordinates the student scholarship program, the election of student delegate, and the student day at the OPPI conference; and oversees programs to high school students considering the profession of planning and outreach to practising planners who are not OPPI members.
District Representatives are elected by members of each District for a two-year term on OPPI Council. The District Representative is the Chair or a member of the District Board of Management or Executive Committee.
The Student Delegate on Council represents the interests of planning students across Ontario. The Student Delegate, who serves for one year only (June to June) is an ex-officio member of Council and is not eligible to vote on Council resolutions.
OPPI Staff are responsible for maintaining the daily operations of the Institute and implementing the strategic action plans set by Council. Staff establish an annual work plan, and monitor their progress monthly. The Executive Director is responsible for the management of staff.
