Membership for Planners from Other Provinces

If you are a professional planner in another province but you are not a Member of the Canadian Institute of Planners or one of its affiliates (i.e. the equivalent of OPPI in that province), then if you move to Ontario you could apply to OPPI and CIP for provisional membership.

Please see links: How to Become a Full Member of OPPI

Moving to Ontario

If you do hold corporate membership in the CIP and one of its affiliates, and you move to Ontario, then OPPI will accept you as a Member. You must be a Member in good standing with CIP and the other affiliate, and have paid to them all outstanding fees. Then you can request in writing the transfer of your member file from the other affiliate to OPPI.

Dual Membership

If you are a Full Member of CIP and one of its affiliates, then OPPI will accept you as a Full Member even if you do not move to Ontario. In fact, you could be a Member of both your original affiliate and of OPPI. At membership renewal time, you will pay your CIP fee and insurance through the affiliate in the province in which you reside, and your Full Member (Out of Province) fee to OPPI. Of course, if you actually move to Ontario, you would pay the standard Full Member fee to OPPI and your Out of Province fee to the other affiliate.
