How to Become a Full Member of OPPI

Step One: Apply to become a provisional member.

As a provisional member, you will need a Full member to sponsor you. Your sponsor will guide you through the membership process.

Step Two: Submit your work experience records to OPPI.

The amount of work experience you need to become a member depends on your education.

Recognized Planning degree2 years experience in planning (minimum)
Degree in a related field4 years experience in planning (minimum)
Degree not related to planning6 years experience in planning (minimum)

Your sponsor will review the records confirming your education and work experience and sign them before you submit them to OPPI.

Step Three: Fulfill the requirements of Examination B.

Examination B is a written test of your skills. It usually takes the form of successful completion of an OPPI membership course.

Individuals who graduated from a recognized planning program are exempt from Examination B.

The examination will be marked by Full members of OPPI.

Step Four: Take Examination A.

Examination A is an interview with OPPI members in which you demonstrate your knowledge of professional practice and responsibilities, the principles of planning, and your commitment to the goals of OPPI.

Members are solely responsible for ensuring that they obtain the quality and quantity of professional experience to meet the accreditation criteria should they wish to attain the RPP designation.
